ROW Adventures catamaran to camp grounds 3/02

Sunset at the campgrounds where we would spend two nights. That's a pelican that just happened to enter the frame. Nice!
Sunset on the catamaran. The end to a relly nice day on the water
Kicker Rock from afar. We'de see much more of it tomorrow
Here comes our catamaran pulling into the dock with our hotel (Casa Opuntia) in the background. It's the white building where we slept last night
Kayakers to sea with a group of supporting sea lions basking in the sun on a raft. The kayakers are heading past a big ship that supplies the island of San Cristobal with basically everything from the mainland.
Kayakers waiting for launch after a safety meeting from the ROW Adventure people
These two look like they want to go for a kayak ride!
Sea iguana and Blue Footed Boobie feet
Boobies and an iguana. They were everywhere!
Blue Footed Boobie with a sleeping sea lion cub
Next to a bust of Charles (Carlos) Darwin. This had just been dedicated on February 9 of this year to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Darwin's visit tothe Galapagos. Interestingly enough, Darwin never set foot on San Cristobal Island - WE DID!
Here's the group atop Volcan Negra
Resting next to the fresh water filler caldera of Volcan Negra
Her's a view of the lake inside the caldera. Frigate birds come here to rinse themselves of salt water. If a frigate immerses itself in salt water it will die. Over the millenia they have had a gland atrophy which used to produce oil that protected them from the salt water. Young frigates come up here to practice soaring and diving. The frigate is known as the pirate of the air. They steal the fish that other birds catch and often drop crabs on rocks from above to smash their shells.
Hello!
Out for a walk just after dawn. This guy is posing in an agressive manner (sort-of). They bark at you if you get too close but never really bothered any of us. There are so many of them that you almost step on them as you walk around enjoying the sights.
Here's a little bambino. CUTE!
