2014_09_20 Trek Day 4 - Wayra Lodge to Colca Lodge.

At the beginning of our trek from Wayra Lodge to Colca Lodge. We got in so late last night we really didn't get to see what was around the lodge.  The jacuzzi for instance was open to the sky with incredible views.  We were in there in the pitch dark!

View of the mountains as we started off.

This looks like a scene from an old western movie!  They are saddling up horses and some of us are milling around ready to start the trek.

A rare image - all 12 of us together. Usually the fast walkers are off like a shot!

At the beginning we were in the high plains with no trees.

There goes our duffle bags on horses heading to the Colca Lodge.

We stopped for a bit of a rest and bath room break and I was swarmed by animals begging for food.  I had never seen chickens right in front of you begging!  They even tried to peck through my zip lock bags to get at snacks.

Most of the day was spent in a light rain on paths like this.  Slippery, muddy with loose rocks
which made you concentrate on each step.  We are down into the cloud forest now - trees everywhere with orchids and moss.

You can see the trail we walked down on the right.

When we almost got to the lodge we had to walk 10 minutes down to this bridge to cross the Salkatay River and then up 10 minutes more to reach the lodge.

Here is Connie heading for the lodge.

Connie bought this little hat for Mackenzie from a local woman.

The worst trek so far........
