2013_03_23 LARNACH CASTLE TOUR

This afternoon Connie and I were not going on the Otago Peninsula boat tour so we took our time touring the castle.  Admission was included because we were guests for 2 days.  A guided audio presentation took you through from bottom to top.  Almost to top because the fog was so thick we decided not to climb to the top of the tower to look at the view as there was none. Too bad, the pictures show an amazing view.  The original owner, William Larnach would watch his ships coming into Dunedin Harbor.  He would send signals to them by flags from the top of the tower.

We also skipped the garden tour - again too bad as they are stunning.  Raining a bit and REALLY foggy!  It's 4:30 now so time to update the blog and maybe a nap before dinner at 7:30 tonight.

Ceiling panels of exotic woods.

Rotunda ceiling above three story staircase.

Another carved wood ceiling panel.  Craftsmen worked 12 years on the details.

Floor tiles on mail level.  Despite its grandeur William Larnach called the castle "The Camp".
